The Production Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of the company’s database systems. This role involves planning

and developing databases, performing upgrades, and troubleshooting issues. Ensuring data consistency, clear definition, concurrent access, and robust data security and recovery are also key priorities for the DBA.

The ideal candidate for this Senior Production DBA role is a Microsoft SQL Server expert with extensive experience managing SQL Server environments in production, specifically for healthcare or similar high-stakes industries. They should be adept at migrations and cloud-based ETL processes, preferably within healthcare or hospital management systems, ensuring they understand the critical need for data security, high availability, and integrity in a 24/7 environment.

This DBA role requires someone who is self-reliant, with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset capable of independently identifying and resolving database issues from start to finish. The hiring manager prefers candidates with a history of working in end-user environments over those accustomed to vendor support structures, emphasizing the need for direct ownership of database health and performance.

A Database Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, and upgrading database software to ensure optimal deployment, implementing appropriate patches and releases, and conducting migrations in collaboration with development teams. They develop and test comprehensive backup and recovery plans, ensuring backups are scheduled to include essential files and synchronizing data with disaster recovery centers. Security management involves handling user authentication, authorization, and auditing protocols to maintain data protection. They monitor disk space, plan for long-term storage needs, and optimize performance by addressing bottlenecks, tuning queries, and adjusting memory and storage resources. Troubleshooting involves quickly diagnosing and resolving database issues while maintaining data integrity. High availability is ensured through clustering, replication, and online backups, particularly in environments requiring 24/7 operations. Additionally, the role includes managing data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes to support reporting, master data preparation, and production database readiness.

Requirements

Qualifications & Job Requirements:
What our client is looking for,

Database Expertise:

• Proven experience (5+ years) in database administration with a strong understanding of database architecture.
• Primary Focus: In-depth expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (2016, 2019, 2022).
• Skilled in SQL, including database tuning, optimization, and bench management.
• Understanding of ETL processes, especially within cloud-based environments (e.g., Azure).

Hospital Management Systems (HMS):

• Prior experience with HMS or healthcare databases is a nice-to-have, offering familiarity with healthcare data structures, regulatory requirements, and high-availability needs.
• Experience from other industries is welcome, but not in DBA support roles.

Migration Expertise:

• Hands-on experience in planning and executing database migrations to newer platforms.
• Ability to ensure data integrity and minimal downtime during migrations.

End-to-End Ownership:

• Senior-level role requiring independent problem-solving and lifecycle management of databases.
• Not a support-line role; must manage issues without relying on external support structures (e.g., vendors like DXC or Tech Mahindra).
• Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving tickets in an end-user environment.

Microsoft Certification:

• Microsoft Certified DBA is a nice-to-have, but hands-on experience is prioritized over certifications.

Soft Skills:

• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
